Through LinkedIn, People can earn, increase network size and knowledge and get more career opportunities. Only Proper utilization needed to achieve all these aspects. The primary purpose of using LinkedIn is “Self-centered perspective”. Here self-centered perspective is career growth. As 90% of the professional world is on LinkedIn, hence all working people should on LinkedIn. To achieve good career growth one important thing is to get more connections on LinkedIn, i.e. we need to get connected with more and more professional people on LinkedIn.
In this article, we are going to talk about connections on LinkedIn, how they differ from followers, and what you can do to get more connections on your LinkedIn account. some people believe that you should only accept the connections request from people you already met or know. But this is the wrong approach. To get more leads, grow your business, or to get a dream job you need to make more connections.
There are two types of connections: First degree connections (people you already know/your connections) and second-degree connections (friends of friends/your connections connected with). The more first-degree connection you will have, the more be access to the second-degree connection. You can see any individual role/ designation over their LinkedIn profile if you are having an excellent base of first-degree connections. However, if you are not that well connected, most of the people will appear as LinkedIn members, i.e. you cannot see their profile. Then you would get LinkedIn premium (paid service) which would give you more a bit more visibility. But unless you want to pay for this, connect with your industry as possible.
You should know that LinkedIn allows you to have up to 30000 connections in total and anyone from that point can become your follower. You automatically start following them whenever you connect with anyone new. Now the content they are sharing will come to your news feed. You need to take part in their post by reacting or comment on their post. This will increase your engagement with their connections (second degree) too. If you are not liking anyone content that they are sharing, you can unfollow them. But you can still send them a direct message. Note: By default, you can only send 5000 connection requests in your lifetime on LinkedIn. But if you will reach the LinkedIn support team, they can give you another 500 to 1000 more connection requests per month. But you shouldn't mark as a spammer or violating any rules to get more connections request. Here spammer means if you are sending any connection request and too many people are declining it. Then you would be considered a spammer. To send a request to someone whom you know already. And we call this generic connection request. Before sending a request/invitation to an unknown person, you should first visit their profile and take part in their content to show your presence to them. After that, you should send them an invitation request. Else you should send them a request/invitation by “adding note” (feature). In this feature, you can just add your introduction and your purpose of sending an invitation to the person. If you will send too many connection requests within a short time, LinkedIn will suspend your account for a couple of hours. Below are some more aspects that you can follow to establish connections and engagement on LinkedIn. • LinkedIn search: is a very strong search capability. Let us take an example your target people are managers. You should then type manager on your search bar. This will show millions of profiles with the tag/keyword of the manager. You can also refine your search by setting the location and industry, i.e. if you want to get profiles of Delhi production managers, you can set the location as Delhi and industry as production. You can also do multiple keyword searches at the same time. We use two keywords with our Search: OR & AND. Let's say you want to search all HRs, managers, and directors, then you need to enter your search as HR OR manager OR directors. After that, LinkedIn will show all the people who have any of the keywords (HR, manager, director) somewhere on their profile. Let us say you want to search all HR that are hiring, then you need to enter your search as HR AND hiring. After that, LinkedIn will show all the people who have both the keywords (HR, hiring) somewhere on their profile. • Choose a better audience: Always show interest to people who are active on LinkedIn. Never send invitations to those who used to log once in a year. You just need to go to their activity section and check whether their shared content and their engagement with other people post. This will help you get in touch with connections of connection, i.e. second-degree connections. • Create content: If you are serious to grow on LinkedIn, create content. So that people will also reach you, and it is the best practice to get in touch with people outside your network. If you will post good quality content on your profile, people will appreciate the value you are providing and would like to connect with you. Hence this will cause building a good network. If you want high-quality connections, you need to produce high-quality content. In this way, you can establish yourself as a thought leader in your field. • Connect with people who are engaging with you: when you provide value through your posts/content, make sure you are connecting with people who like and commenting on your posts. If people are engaging with your posts, it means they are enjoying your posts. As a result, they will visit your profile. But you can check your profile visit if you are paying for this service, i.e. LinkedIn premium.
